Khaled Almaeena
Khaled Almaeena has been in the media business for around 25 years. In 1982, he became the Editor-in-chief of the first English language daily – The Arab News, a position that he held for 11 years until 1993 and brought from relative obscurity to feature large on the world media stage.
In 1993, he founded the first authentic Public Relations Company (SPRC). The new company acquired several international clients as well as advisory positions to governments and institutions in the region.
He returned back to Arab News from 1998 to 2011 and during this period enhanced the paper’s position on the world stage. Confronting challenges like the fallout from 9/11 and several other issues that really needed a voice from the region. He was a constant writer on Saudi and Arab affairs with political and social column featured in several international publications.
In 2012, Almaeena joined the Jeddah based Saudi Gazette as Editor-in-chief and remained there until the end of 2014. Almaeena extensive knowledge of the workings of the national media and communications experience ( he spent some time as television news anchor, talk-show host and radio announcer) and fluency in English, Arabic and Urdu, made it almost inevitable that he spread his many communications talents into public relations and onwards into the community.
He founded and is Co-Chair of Naam Association, an NGO dedicated to providing assistance for Non-Profit Organisations to assist them to help in their communities.
In 2017, he became a Managing partner of Quartz Communication. In 2019 Almaeena was elected as chairman of Albilad Publishing and Printing Company, the publisher of first daily newspaper in the Kingdom.
His many achievements and formidable analytical talents in analyzing the complexity of Middle East politics has been recognized internationally. Pakistan honored him with its highest civilian award – The Star of Excellence in 2009, Mindanao University conferred an honorary Doctorate in Humanities and he is a visiting non-resident scholar at the University of Florida.
